The Up Late Friday night events held during selected exhibitions opens access to the Gallery’s major exhibitions outside of usual opening hours. Up Late welcomes visitors to experience the Gallery in a relaxed and social atmosphere, where a range of events are developed to enhance your visit.
Up Late includes:
- Live music and performance
- Talks by Gallery staff and special guests
- Specially-developed programs for Gallery Members
- Retail and dining facilities
Since 2008, Up Late has become a major feature of the Gallery’s public program, having hosted a range of music performances by leading local, national and international performers in specially-designed lounge and bar spaces, and broadened the interpretation of current exhibitions through informal talks by guest speakers from a range of professions.
Matisse Up Late

GoMA is open UP LATE on Fridays from 20 January – 2 March during ‘Matisse: Drawing Life’.
Up Late takes a sophisticated, soulful approach during ‘Matisse: Drawing Life’, with DJ jazz in the early evening introducing the lush arrangements of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Django Rheinhart, Alice Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, Don Cherry, Miles Davis, and Chet Baker.
Up Late will feature contemporary artist talks, live models bringing The Drawing Room to life, and music performances with an acoustic edge providing the perfect backdrop to the exhibition.
A program of events is also available exclusively for Gallery Members.
Tickets available through qtix or telephone 136 246 (tickets are limited and booking fees apply) and at the Gallery of Modern Art ticket office on the night (subject to availability).
Please note: Friday night viewing of the exhibition is only available with an Up Late ticket.
