Artist Workshops

The New Wave Teens program of artist-run workshops provides a fun and engaging way for teenage visitors to participate in a FREE hands-on program with contemporary artists and learn about contemporary art.

Artist workshop | Saturday 23 June 2012
During the winter school holidays, young people have the opportunity to work with Kirsty Bruce, ‘Contemporary Australia: Women’ artist. Bookings essential, to book please email newwaveteens@qagoma.qld.gov.au

The Gallery also develops a range of programs and events for tertiary students and emerging artists, writers and curators – New Wave Emerging.

Past programs

January 2012
Animation workshop
Animator Joe Brumm, Director of local Studio JoHo developed led an animation workshop called ‘Seeing Sound’, which explored the relationship between the visual and the audio in animation and film making. Participants worked with Joe and a team of animator-volunteers to create their own animations responding to original pieces of music. Watch their creation… 

September 2011
Artist workshop 
Young people had the fantastic opportunity to work one-on-one with contemporary artist Alick Tipoti in a hands-on workshop during the school holidays. Tipoti's works were on display in the 'Land, Sea, Sky' exhibition.

December 2010
Painting & Screen Test Workshop
During the Scott Redford: Introducing Reinhardt Dammn exhibition, Scott Redford conducted workshops where local high school students created their own surf sticker designs, made monochromatic paintings and featured in a screen test film.

September 2010
Fashion Workshops
Free fashion workshops with 'the stitchery' fashion collective from QUT were conducted to celebrate 'Valentino Retrospective: Past/Present/Future' at the Gallery of Modern Art. Workshops included a focus on 'Grunge vs. Glamour' and 'Cuffs and Collars.

June 2010
Photography Workshop
New Zealand artist Gavin Hipkins presented a workshop relating to his photography, exploring narrative and photo-montage. Gavin's work was in Unnerved: The New Zealand Project at the Gallery of Modern Art.
