New Wave offers a range of events that explore contemporary art and ideas, for tertiary students and emerging artists, writers and curators. Keep up to date with local, national and international arts issues through exhibition previews, forums, artist talks, and other events that explore the Gallery's Collection and current exhibitions.

The experience and advice provided by exhibiting artists is invaluable for emerging practitioners. 

In conjunction with 'Contemporary Australia: Women', join exhibiting artist Natalya Hughes as she shares the development of her work, The After Party 2012. Spaces are limited. Bookings required, email new.wave@qagoma.qld.gov.au.

Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship 2012
WINNER ANNOUNCED
Designed to promote, encourage and advance the development of visual arts in Queensland, the Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship is offered to artists and art students aged 25 years or under.  We are pleased to announce that the 2012 Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship has been awarded to 'Catherine or Kate'. A duo comprised of artists Catherine Sagin and Kate Woodcroft. Together these artists submitted an outstanding proposal so keep an eye on this page for further information about 'Catherine or Kate's' Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship project for 2012.

The Fashion of drawing: Drawing session with fashion designer Paul Hunt
Just as costume inspired Henri Matisse's work, drawing continues to be integral to contemporary fashion design. Emerging artists and designers were invited to a special after-hours event, combining a tour of 'Matisse: Drawing Life' and a drawing workshop program led by fashion designer and couturier, Paul Hunt.

Emerging artists, writers and curators were invited to join Tim Woodward, local emerging artist and recipient of the 2011 Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship, as he shared the results of his art project.
