Children's Art Centre programs

As part of ‘The China Project’, the Children’s Art Centre presents two artist projects by exhibiting artists Song Dong and William Yang.

Song Dong: Writing with water

28 March – 28 June 2009

Song Dong invites children to write or draw their thoughts on large rocks with traditional Chinese calligraphy brushes. When Song Dong was a child, he practised his calligraphy by writing with water on stone because his family could not afford ink and paper. He returned to this practice as an adult, and has used a brush to write his diary in water on a block of stone for more than 10 years. The water diary is an important part of his life and art.

William Yang: Australia now

28 March – 28 June 2009

Artist William Yang explores his Chinese–Australian background through stories and photographs. Yang invites children to draw self–portraits, tell their stories and discover which animal sign they are on the Chinese zodiac.
