Panel Discussion: An artist abroad

Miranda Wallace, Curatorial Manager, International Art, Exhibitions and Research will chair a discussion addressing the influence of place in Matisse’s work, considering his early years in a textile-manufacturing region of northern France, his formal training in Paris, and his travels southwards to Nice, North Africa and, eventually, to Tahiti. Speakers include Terence Maloon, Curator, Special Exhibitions, Art Gallery of New South Wales; Dr Prue Ahrens, Lecturer in Art History, University of Queensland; and Dominique Szymusiak, Director, Musée Matisse, Le Cateau-Cambrésis.
